'Mark Grieves 'Serenade' ' - by Mark Grieves
Grieves 'serenade' was created in the spring of 2009, a limited edition piece its number 12/150 made. The artist has signed the piece and its mounted in the gold and black frame to compliment the art style. It has the certificate of authenticity and is no longer widely available. This piece came from a well loved home and has a slight mark on the canvas from transit but it doesn't deflect from the pieces beauty. (Picture shows the mark)
His method of working is different from the traditional approach. Normally artist would work from light to dark but he finds it natural to work in reverse from dark to light. Working exclusively in oils, Mark Grieves always starts with a completely black canvas and add highlights until he finds the balance in contrast. Mark Grieves works hard at composition and at the geometry emphasising light and shadow. He also likes titles to give clues: there is always a strong sense of narrative.
